The Watchdog Tailgate Lock was invented by friends Bill and Keith after they realized the need for a tailgate theft deterrent device.  Bill and Keith have each worked in the automotive industry for over 35 years and in the past few years saw an increased volume of tailgate replacements due to theft. 

The thieves seem to target both individuals and dealerships and some auto makers have responded by including a factory lock on the tailgate.  The main issue with the factory lock is the individual/dealer must remember to lock it and it appears to be unsuccessful due to the high rate it is left unlocked.  In 2006, Bill and Keith designed and produced the first bracket that offers truck owners and dealerships peace of mind on their tailgates once it is installed.
